Help Advice needed!! (longish read)

Life is a learning experience, college is expensive, phones are not.
Verizon and others 4G service is NOT ready for prime time AND does not provide wide ranging coverage.
Verizon 4G coverage goes down quite regularly dragging data service down completely on most Bionics and some Razrs, no one at Verizon or Motorola seems to know why, but I'm sure they will look into it when they are done selling phones.
As I understand it voice, text and data are three separate functions of the phone. Data is the one giving most of us fits.
My advice since you asked (you may not like it).
Don't root a phone unless you are prepared to replace it.
Don't expect stellar service when traveling in other countries.
Don't tell the insurance company you rooted your phone when you file the claim. (If you can't turn it on neither can they).
Don't try to use 4G on your next phone.(select CDMA only).
If everything else fails suggest that the GF buy you a new phone (Phones Gas or Grass ... nobody rides for free) Jeez only kidding easy big guy
Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. I'm not a newb to android. I had my phone set to CDMA only and of course tried every different setting, etc, before determining there was an issue with the phone, not verizons system. I have always rooted my phones - too many reasons not to really. Voice was fine on the phone, but data was non-existent. This problem started happening before going to cancun, unfortunately. As I stated, two people with DX's had great 3g service while in cancun, while mine had none. I will likely just bite the bullet and pay the deductible on the insurance. Not the end of the world I agree. I do use my phone for a lot of business (emails, calling employee's, etc) so not having access to any missed texts while I was gone is a bummer. Not being able to get a new phone via insurion until probably tuesday (as the soonest) of next week makes the matter worse.

Verizon 4G coverage goes down quite regularly

Verizon's 4G LTE service has been up and running for a year. It has gone down twice in that time. The last couple of days was the second time it has ever happened.

To the thread creator: Your last few days of data issues have nothing to do with your phone, don't return it because of that. If the data outage bothers you that much, you can call and complain to Verizon and they will probably take $30+ off your next monthly bill if you make a big enough deal about it.

Ive contacted verizon again today and they are going to give me an exchange. With all the problems I had before the display issue they apparently feel it would be a valid exchange regardless. I must say the last 3 times I have called customer service they have been extremely helpful. Kudo's to them - great way to keep a long-term customer. As a business owner myself, I don't like seeing returns, however if handled properly you can ensure that the customer will leave happy and most likely continue to be a long-term customer. I'll give Verizon a big thumbs up today.

EDIT: Mods you can close this thread if you want I've got my problems taken care of. Thanks to anyone who replied in my thread.

No need to close. Others may have similar questions later. :)

Glad you got your answers though! :D
