Advice on Roms

Before source was released, I was on aosp pac in black rom. This rom was good but then I updated to the stock rooted version (equal to the OTA update).

This is my credentials at this time. Android version 4.1.2, kernal version 3.0.31+ GC01_v0.1.0, build number JZ054K.SPH-D710.GC01, software version GB08

I was wondering what rom do you guys think is a very good rom? I am looking for a rom that has all the bugs worked out, has everything, or almost everything working and is loaded with features. The stock rom I am on now is just not packed with the features I have come accustomed to. Are TW based roms better than aosp?? If they are, which one would you recommend?? Also, since source has been released, have the custom roms been built upon the source or are the roms in the one stop shop the ones that were built before source was released. Correct me if I am wrong, but building from orignal source enables a more smoother experience with less bugs. In your opinion, would you go with a rom not built with orignal source or with one that is?? If I am way off base on this, please correct me. I am just trying to understand all of this.
Thanks in advance

TW ROMs are what Samsung puts on their phones. The TW ones will generally be smoother and have everything working properly. There are a few custom ROMs out there, most are on the Sprint side (GB27 is the build number for them), but they work for our phone just fine with only an adjustment to the MMS server settings for mms messages needed. Source was only needed for custom recovery kernels which we have now. The Custom TW ROMs have been out and running just fine even before then. Check some of them out. Touched by SG3 is nice.

Thanks for the response. Where do I find the Touched by SG3, I looked in the one stop shop thread but did not see it? From the rom I am on now, how do I go about installing a tw rom like the SG3?? I'm still trying to understand all this with kernals and recoveries and all this stuff. Until now, when I had past phones like the htc evo v and motorola triumph, I never messed around with kernals and recoveries, I guess it was all included with the custom rom. So, with any rom on our phone, I have to install a kernal and recovery then, right?? And that is different from the roms? Do certain kernals and recoveries only work on certain roms?? Forgive me for being clueless on this but the more I understand, the better I will be. In my book, the only stupid question is a question not asked.

I just came from cm10... Which I love... And switched to wild for the night ROM. 4.2.2. The bomb dude if u wanna try a good aosp ROM. I personally like it better than the tw roms

I love wild for the night as well. Probably my favorite rom. But since the "echo bug" was introduced on the 4/1/2013 build I don't recommend the rom anymore. Anything prior to 4/1 is great. The 3/25 build is the best in my opinion because its the last build before he switched the mic's. I don't recommend aosp at this point because the basic features of a phone don't seem to work on a stable reliable level yet. Dastin is working hard on it and will probably be there soon. But if you want stability stick with TW roms. Or if you're dying to try out aosp go for Cm9 Baltic avenue. Everything just works.

It's all over the wild for the night thread. In fact almost all aosp roms that are cm10.1 based are experiencing it. It makes using the phone as a phone highly irritating. The only fix right now is to use a wired head set to make calls. It's in a lot of aosp threads.

Basically people youre on the phone with can hear like feedback of themselves while talking. It's frustrating to say the least.

Yeah. Sucks because I love aosp but it's not playing nicely with the D710 right now. Oh well, I'm on jellyverse right now until wild for the night gets an update. I'm waiting patiently because wftn is my favorite rom.

Idk. It's a really bad problem with aosp right now. It's turned me away for awhile. That and sending and receiving mms is a joke even with the flashable fix. Oh and voicemail. Don't even get me started with that. Lol. Oh well, I love WFTN but I'll return in a few months when it's stable. ( crossing my fingers).

I am gonna try to flash wild for the night rom. I do have a few questions before I start. Right now I believe I am on stock rom, rooted. These are the details under about phone, android version 4.1.2, baseband version S:D710.10.S.GB08, kernal version 3.0.3+, build number JZ054K.SPH-D710.GC01, software version GB08. With the credentials I have now, I booted into recovery and I'm on a agat 0.3.2 recovery. When I go into my file explorer, I don't see the file for this recovery, it should be a zip, right?? I have a file named agat 0.6.8 that I used when I was rooted on the stock rom, would this recovery work with my current credentials in case I try to flash wild for the night and something goes wrong and I have to restore a backup. I am confused when it comes to this stuff, I just want to make sure I have all my basis covered.

Do I need a different recovery for this wild for the night rom, if so, which one?? Can I do a full wipe data with the credentials I have now> I thought I read somewhere where full wipe creates bootloops. Also, what modem do you recommend and when do I install that, there are many choices of modems, after the rom?? On the wild for the night xda thread, it says something about changing the governor and changing back?? what do I change it to? Also, I heard that the current version has echo issues, is this true? Thanks in advance.
Also, recovery and kernal are in the same package, right?? If I have to flash another recovery, when do I flash that, before the rom??

Use the el29 direct boot kernel(safe kernel). Wipe/Factory reset, flash the FL24 modem, flash wild for the night, then flash the gaps, then the boostmmsfix.zip, then boot into cm10.1. Install titanium backup pro, then apn manager pro. Use TB to make APN pro a system app. Fix the apn with the correct info and you are good to go. Let me know if you have any problems finding any of those things.

Do you know where I can find the zip file to my current recovery I am on now. I want to put it on my sd card just in case I run into any problems. When I boot into recovery, it says agat 0.3.2
I've looked all over but can't see to find a zip to this recovery.
In your reply, you said fix the apn with the correct info, what do you mean by that?? And, what does this apn pro do?? Thanks again

The recovery program itself is part of the kernel you have while making the nandroid. Keep a copy of that kernel available to flash in case you need to restore your backup. The backup files you made are in a folder called clockworkmod.

I looked in the backup files in clockworkmod and I don't see a kernal in there. In my backup folder I made right after I rooted before flashing roms (I was on stock) I have agat 0.6.8 but I don't think that will work with these backups, correct me if I'm wrong. The agat 0.6.8 was after rooted before flashing roms, this agat 0.3.2 is after I did the update. Will the agat 0.6.8 work if I restore a backup when 0.3.2 recovery was the one that made the backup?

When I go into about phone, it says kernal version
3.0.31+

Instead of trying to search my memory, it would probably be easier to just download it again, do you know where I can find this particular kernal/recovery. I tried looking in rwilcos12 kernal repository but I could not find it in there?? Could your help me find this?? Thanks
