Help Advice wanted

i've had a galaxy portal (uk i5700 (spica?) on 3 network) for a while now, and I'm perfectly happy with it.
However, I know things could always be better, currently running 2.1 which shipped on the phone, what could I/should I do...and why?
I see lots of references to glasop/glasxo but nothing actually saying what these are..or why I'd want them.
Whatever I end up doing, I really don't want to lose swype keyboard which I'm loving right now.

the best advice i could give you is to go over to Samdroid board and pick something that suits your needs. you'll find tones of software, speed tweaks and whatnot.

i'm currently running CyanogenMod alpha 8.2 (a very tweaked version of Froyo) plus some mods and it's really fast and smooth.

i'm not going to tell you what to put on your phone since you'll have to experiment with a lot of stuff to settle to something you like but i will tell you that it's so much better to have a rooted phone on which you can apply whatever mods and themes you like! it gets a lot faster, prettier and you can personalize it with ease. just go ahead and browse samdroid! have fun!
