Advice with my keyboard/predict text please

Plonk

Newbie
Hi There
I have had to do a factory reset on my phone and now I cant get my keyboard back to normal.
Before, when I used predict text, it did not change the words, just gave me suggestions in a little box below.

Now I cant seem to get that back. When I switch on predict text it changes the words and I cannot type them in properly without them being corrected to something new.

At the moment I have switched it off, but would love to know how to get back to just the suggestions instead of completely rewriting my message.
Thanks :)

Which phone/keyboard are you using?

I've not met this, but that info may help someone else identify the cause.

Im using a samsung galaxy 4 and the keyboard is just the samsung one.
It used to have a google option but that has since disappeared and im quite new to android so unsure how to get it back or get back the voice to text option which I loved.

Settings>Language and Keyboard>Samsung Keyboard (settings button for it)>Look for a settings for "Autocorrect" or "Autoinsert". Also there are more settings for predictive text. Enable it, then tap the part where the words "predictive text" are written.

EDIT: As a side note, I'd recommend you trying either Swype or Swiftkey from the Play Store. They have like a 15-30 day trial before you buy, and see if you like either. In my experience both are better than stock keyboard in so many ways. I personally preferred Swype over Swiftkey for many reasons, but when Swiftkey updated to include my native language, I changed to it. While swipe is better at predicting by swipe input by a huge margine, Swifkey is more tap typing friendly in layout and can predict from two languages at the same time, which is good if you are in a bilingual country (like I am).
