ADW IS BACK!

@MLSS

I gave it a brief look, seemed kinda weird to me,admittedly,it was the beta.
Maybe I had a Blonde-Senior-Brainfart attack, but,I didn't even see how to get to the app settings, which was a putoff, thinking they were trying too hard to be different/etc....
Perhaps I'll take another look this evening,as I used this app after Launcher Pro became a relic....................

If you long press the home screen app settings show up.

I'm finding that if you just take your time it's kinda fun to set up.

I got into the settings, looking for the PRO/Premium license:
It's there, but, nothing said about stopping the sharing of data B. S., so, it's definitely a No-Go.

I get that the dev needs to monetize, that's cool, but, if a dev doesn't offer an Ad free experience/Pro license option that puts a stop to the Cheetah Mobile type of data mining, there's no place for their app on my phone.

Apex Launcher Pro is serving me quite well,I think I'll stick with it.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the play store says it was last updated in 2013. o_O

I bought ADW Launcher EX back in the day. Does that extend to the new version?
I downloaded the beta from apk mirror. As far as I know the original premium key doesn't work.

I liked ADW, but I thought development had stopped. I don't mind waiting for the release version, though.

I am an android user but don't consider myself a "fanatic," lol, so I thought I'd take advantage of this thread to ask what are the advantages of using a launcher as opposed to just using the phone " as is out of the box" like I always have??

If you use a launcher, you can throw your phone farther when it doesn't work. ;)

Seriously, it provides additional features for your home screens and app drawer that you might not have with the default launcher. I like Apex, Nova is probably more popular. ADW was a top launcher a few years back. I'm hopeful that it's returning. One of my favorite features of most 3rd party launchers is the ability to backup it's configuration, so if I flash my phone or factory reset it ..... or get a new phone, I can restore the backup and my home screens are just the way I left them. :)

With a 3rd party launcher such as Nova Prime Apex, you can set up folders with custom background colors, you can set the grid size (ei... 4x5 5x5 6x5 ect), you can customize your app drawer, some launchers will let you customize the search bar, how many icons you can have on your dock and how many dock pages you can have. Also, their are thousands of icon packs available to download and lots of gestures (swipe up, swipe down, 2 finger swipe and so on) to help make your phone run fast and smooth.

I use Nova Launcher Prime. It has a lot od nifty customization features and corrects many stock browser limitations.

It does not change every time the system changes a version forcing me to learn a new collection of capabilities.

The biggest feature is that I can save and restore all the settings. Example ... save settings ... do a Factory Data Reset ... install Nova Launcher Prime ... restore settings.

It is one of the things that takes the PAIN out of doing a Factory Data Reset.

LOL! I have never changed from ADW-EX. Still loving it after all these years. I have my folders set up just how I like them and everything is backed up. When I change phones I move the settings folder to the new phone and restore my backup and then a simple cleanup of apps has me rolling again.

Exactly. This is the real advantage of a good third-party browser.

FWIW - I use Pixel Phone Pro for the same reason. The vendor "improvements" with each relase are beyond tiresome.
