Afghan Woman Estorai Killed After Having Baby Girl

what always amazes me is that we..... who fight so hard to ensure we have the right to our own morality standards........ so quickly condemn other countries and try to force OUR standards onto them

Correct, however we do not kill our spouses and children because of the gender they were born with. There's a big difference btw what you're referring to and what actually has happened in this story.

how many millions of abortions are performed? you truly believe none of them are because they wanted a boy instead of a girl or vise versa? or for that matter for any other reason they are performed...... yet we believe (at least a strong percentage) that abortion is acceptable...... so morally thats fine by our standards.

what has happened in this story is a society that strongly values male babies vs females for various reasons........ and morally in their society its acceptable to treat women and children (born or unborn) much differently than in our society..... in their culture women and female children are to be ashamed of and treated like animals

it is not our place to dictate what they believe or how they behave as a culture....... no more than you want them telling you to believe or behave a certain way

and do not forget that it wasnt many years ago...... just a few short decades that it was still perfectly morally acceptable to treat women/children/different races far differently in the US than is morally acceptable today

This is a very interesting argument. However even in this man's society it was an unacceptable act, as he was arrested, so I am not sure the moral relativity argument comes into affect for this situation.

When something is wrong, seriously wrong, its IMO a moral imperative to at least *want* to fix it. It's not ok to uphold backward beliefs that result in murder and maiming like that. I dont care what your god or prophet told you.

When it happens in other countries, we can use the tried and tested aid and trade to enforce trade. But when it happens at home, we must prosecute those who commit these horrendous acts and educate others who may think likewise. Again as you see, the people who did are also in trouble. Even in Afghanistan, at least in the better parts, this is not culture. This is evil.
