Help After a few tips...

Hi,

I have just got a Galaxy Note N-7000, its my first Android. I must say I fairly impressed with it up to now although there's a few nagging issues I'm experiencing.

Since I've updated to ICS (4.0.3) I've noticed the handset reboots itself from time to time, usually when its in my pocket (maybe 4-5 times a day). Has anyone else experienced this or got any ideas on how to sort that out?

Also, I cant receive MMS to the handset. Instead a I get a prompt to download it which often fails, I have found I can save the images on the MMS and then go and look at them in the gallery, although I'm fairly sure I'm losing whatever audio that maybe attached to them. I've read something about MMS will not download onto a handset when WiFi is enabled although I've tried turning the WiFi off (leaving data on) and checking again but it still doesn't work?

Lastly, when I try to back my device up with Samsung Kies the back up runs all the way till the end then Kies crashes. I've contacted Samsung over this issue and they mentioned about uninstalling the Samsung drivers and re-installing them although that hasn't resolved it it. I even thought about rooting so I can get that app where you can run a full back up although after only having the handset for a month and not having any greater reason to root than that I've held off.

I had the similar problem. Take it in to the service centre. DO NOT ATTEMPT to reset the phone via rvery or you are liable to brick your phone.

my personal advice is to port a Safe Kernal for CM9 and flash CM9 onto the handset.

Thats another issue, I had thought about rooting the other day until I read up more on it, apparently there have been problems when rooting the N7000XXLPY kernal ending up with a bricked handset?

You are partially correct there.

Rooting it doesnt do anything to it. Just voids your warranty. If you do it right, you can get away with it and not trip your counter. There is a bug with the kernel which incorrectly summons a eMMC procedure. It can happen to you if you attempt to do a Factory Reset/Data Wipe even if you do it via the Stock Recovery that comes with the phone. Samsung is "working" on the fix. Again, i dont see the need to wait for them to roll out a fix when we can get away with awesome ROMS from teamhacksung (the creators of Cyanogen Mod). I flashed a kernal written by XplodeWild from XDA and havent had an issue with the phone ever since.

are your pockets really tight? because i've had the same problem. the side of the pocket is constantly pushing the power button, causing it to restart several times. ever since i started using an aluminum bumper case, it had stopped because the power button is no longer the making contact with my jeans pocket.
