Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie here. Thought you might of be much help in sorting this out.
A few days ago, i've updated my galaxy s2, Kernel version 3.0.15|9100XXLPW-CL413606
and after the update i no more can regulate the brightness of the screen from the actual screen (when you slide the finger on the top bar of the menu left to right to regulate it).
Do you think this is a bug or is it a bug in the new android update and is there anyway to roll back to before the update?

thanks everyone for the input, hope to resolve this issue

Try set to auto brightness, reboot the phone, then after reboot - turn off autobrightness then try see if manual adjustment works.

Is there any way to roll back?

You can either:-

Take your phone to a Samsung Service Point and ask them to do it for you. This may incur a charge.

or

If you are an experienced and competent user, you can re-flash the phone, using Odin3, with Gingerbread firmware. See, here.

WARNING. This method is not without risk as downgrading from ICS to Gingerbread is not always as straightforward as the reverse.

no, you wont have an easy option to downgrade your firmware... but there are alternatives to getting back the old firmware. if you're under warranty, it would be in your best interest to send it to Samsung Customer service center to have them revert your operating system back to the version before you upgraded. Do back up your data to your PC before doing so as they will most likely return the repaired unit with all your data wiped out.

considering the circumstances, you might want to try performing a factory reset on your phone after backing up your data and see whether the operating system functions normally as it should. the problem is usually caused by conflicting setting from previous firmware and upgrading from version 2.3.x to 4.0.x has the tendency to produce glitches such as your brightness settings. If it does get fixed and you've tested the phone to be working the way you expect it... you can avoid the trouble of sending it back for repair.
