Help After Evo 3.29.651.5 update, can't connect to Wifi

I used to get very good wifi connection before the 3.29.651.5 update. The Linksys router could be 20 feet away and I would have no problem connecting. Now I can be 3 feet away and I can't connect.

The router I'm using is an older Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G BroadBand Router but I know it's still working great because I can connect with my laptop and it's what I was using before the Evo update.

I'm using the WiFi Manager app that let's me know if I'm connected or not, and it just says "connecting..." but never connects.

Does anybody have any suggestions or recommendations because for the longest time I used my Evo for web browsing at home more than my PC, and 4G sucks right now in Rockwall, TX.
 
Have you tried restarting the router by unplugging it and plugging it back in? Also, is there another wifi access point (a friend's maybe?) that you can test connecting to? I've noticed the Evo doesn't always like to connect to older routers. I had to buy a new one when I determined that the only wireless router my Evo couldn't connect to was my old one.

Thanks, I used that router since I got my Evo back in June. I hadn't had any problems until this recent update. I did go to Starbucks today since they have free Wifi and I connected without any problems.

I unplugged and re-plugged all cables, held the reset-button for 30 seconds, and did a few other steps found on the Linksys support site, but still no luck. My laptop connects but the Evo doesn't anymore.

I may have to just buy another router, what brand and model of router did you get?
 
I bought a Netgear WNR1000. It works great, and you can take advantage of 802.11n. I paid ~$50 for it, but you can probably find it for a little cheaper if you shop around

How old is your router? I'd hate for you to buy a new one if you don't need to. This just happened to be my experience. When I did the update to Froyo (I think, it may have even been the update before that), I couldn't connect to my old Microsoft wireless router anymore, but I could connect to pretty much anything else. It worked fine before that.

EDIT: Forgot to ask before - is it not connecting, or is it not getting an IP address? Basically, does it sit there saying "Scanning" or does it say "Connecting" or "Obtaining IP address" or something like that? If it's just not getting an IP address, assign a static one, then try. I remember reading that some people got it to work that way. It didn't work for me, but it's worth a shot.

I found that Netgear WNR1000 for $44 at Walmart, so I may get it. This Linksys was given to me about 2 years ago. When trying to connect to it, it just says "connecting...", but never connects. I also removed the WEP security and left the router with no password and "open" but still can't connect to it with the Evo.

I'll get another router this weekend if I still can't connect before then.
 
If you actually open wifi properties while it's connecting, do you see anything a little more specific, like obtaining IP address? Did you try giving it a static IP address at that point? It's worth a shot before buying a new one. In any case, I've been happy with the netgear. $44 sounds like a good price for that. Looks like it's about the same price on Newegg, too.
