After Lollipop: contact phone numbers gone?

Hopk1ns

Lurker
I upgraded my Nexus 4 to Lollipop this week, and my phone seems to have "forgotten" all of my telephone contacts. At first I did not notice this because, when I go to the Phone and then to the Contacts, I still see everyone listed. However, I did notice that names were no longer associated with my text messages. Then I realised that I could dial no-one from my contacts list. Luckily, it seems as though WhatsApp associated each phone number with a specific WhatsApp contact field, so I still have everyone's number and I can click through WhatsApp to access a "Call" option, but it's obviously a daft work around and I cannot see who is calling me when my phone is ringing! Two questions:

1) Does anyone know how this issue might be fixed in general?
2) If "no" to (1), does anyone know of a way that I might copy the number in the WhatsApp field into the "phone number" field for all contacts?

Thanks in advance!

Try resyncing contacts from the accounts setting page. They should be backed up to the cloud if you've previously allowed it

Thanks for the reply. Everything seems to be syncing regularly. I use a connection to an Exchange server to store my contacts, although I just created a new contact on the phone and I cannot see it on exchange via Outlook on my PC, which seems odd. The calendar syncs fine at the moment. I'll investigate the new contact issue to see if that gives a clue.

Sync with Exchange is just not happening for contacts. New Contacts on the phone (using the exchange account) do not get to the Exchange server, and new contacts on the Exchange server do not get to the phone. Calendar and e-mail sync on the same exchange account are working fine. I suspect this it the root cause of my problem.
