Root AGPS patch - root required?

Hi, I've had enough of my flakey gps on my DS so I'm looking at installing the AGPS patch.

Does anyone know if I need root or will S-Off be enough?

I'm a complete root noob and unfortunately on Hboot : 2.00.0002. I'm planning to follow FoX777's guide.

Any advice much appreciated.
