Aim sms

I just recently started using an android, I was using a messaging phone but recently upgraded with a limited amount of data. When I had my messaging phone I was able to receive AIM's via SMS when I was logged out. I no longer can and I have some friends who I communicate with almost only this way. I have the AIM app however it uses my data and I have the smallest package possible.

Does anyone know how I can continue to receive my aims via SMS like I used to just by having my friends IM my screename when I'm offline?

In my experience, your contacts should be able to simply send the IM to your cellular number. However, if you're not wanting to give them your cellular number, then I think that's something you setup on AIM itself to forward messages as SMS to your phone when you're offline.
