Help Aim wont work for htc evo 4g

For some reason when I use AIM for my htc evo 4g it doesn't always send the messages. I have no problem receiving messages but it takes a while for it to start sending them. Is this just an app problem or is it to do with the phone or network? If it is an app problem does anyone know of a better app to use for instant messaging? Something that supports aim users though. Thanks in advance for any input.

Have you tried Trillian? I think that's its name. I used to use it for my AIM messaging for an old job and it worked fine.
