Can AIM messenger be linked with gmail chat like on a pc or do you need a seperate app for AIM messaging?

I'd like to know this too. I installed eBuddy, but clicking "Chat using AIM" on a contact does nothing.

Yeah I didn't much care for Meebo. I'm using eBuddy now, but that made me sign up for an account.

I've had horrible experience with Meebo. It keeps disconnecting, and if it does manage to reconnect on it's own, then AIM gives the message that you're signed in with multiple locations. Also, meebo seems to just close randomly.

I definitely prefer eBuddy, although I don't know of any way to configure the Droid so that when you choose AIM from a contact that it will open eBuddy be default. This is a new feature with the 2.0 OS so we may just need to wait for eBuddy to develop this feature.

So maybe I'm being dumb, but what is the point of "Contact using AIM" if it doesn't launch my 3rd party AIM app?

So far what I am getting from this thread is that Meebo sucks ass, eBuddy is good and Hello IM is good.

That about right?

That option is a new one and the 3rd party apps don't know about it yet. If/when they get updated it should work.

I'm hoping it will be full integration with contacts similar to how it is with facebook.

Ive used meebo, ebuddy, nimbuzz, and hiaim. Im using only hiaim now for a couple reasons. First i find ebuddy lacking alot of typical features, it wouldnt even show me a notification, seems buggy still to me. nimbuzz is just clunky to me, but it works, i dont like the fact when it runs it stays in wake mode. Meebo was great for me, used it quit a bit however i found it is a battery eater, however being logged into multiple chats and constant updating could be why. So now im using only hiaim since most my contacts are aim. My battery life has improved alot switching from meebo to hiaim. You can play with them yourself and see which u prefer. :p

I've switched to using the Free IM+ when I even get on AIM, but most of the people I talk to I'm finding are on Google Talk anyway, so I use it less and less.

for those that have used many AIMs, is it worth getting Hello IM For 10 dollars over meebo? I'm using meebo right now and apparently meebo sucks the most battery of them all? What are your experiences with the different programs' effect on battery life?

has anyone tried fring? it's free, supports "everything" and also has Skype. i used it on WinMo and had lots of problems, so i'd prefer to hear about other people's experiences, but then again, most things on WinMo had problems.

edit: wow, apparently it was just released today on android! so i'm guessing not many have tried it yet.
