airplane mode turns on automatically

I have a Galaxy Nexus and I notice sometimes in the morning that airplane mode is turned on. On one occasion, I was browsing the web and it turned on at 10:30pm. I did have some battery saver apps that could have done this in the past but have uninstalled anything like that. So there is no software on the phone that is likely to do this.
Any ideas?

There's no stock application on a Galaxy Nexus that would do this. Additionally, user apps are not permitted to do this (I assume your running Android 4.2.2 or later, since you're using a Nexus). Are you rooted? If so, take a look at the apps you have installed that require root.

Hi,
Thanks for the update. I'm not rooted. Using Android 4.1.2. 4.2.2 not available yet for unrooted Galaxy Nexus by my service provider.
Still no answer - have seen a common problem affecting Galaxy Nexus phones going to airplane mode unexpectedly. I am passing this phone onto my wife. I may do a factory reset before handing it over.
