Help Airplane mode wifi question

I keep my phone connected to wifi while home at all times but when I go to bed I put it in airplane mode. When I unlock my phone in the morning the wifi automatically comes on but the phone is still in airplane mode. How can I stop that from happening?

Thats how airplane mode is supposed to work. You are still able to connect to wifi on planes, so wifi has to be able to run during airplane mode.

Now I feel stupid. But I was hoping airplane mode turned everything that can send or receive a signal off. But even if I turn my wifi off it turns back on by itself when I unlock my phone in the morning.
