Help Alarm-clock buzzer won't shut off!!!

I've been in the situation several times now where my AlarmClock alarm will not shut off, if I (by mistake) hit the "home" or "back" key before either sliding down to disable, or pressing "snooze".

It will just continue to blast at full volume. Turning the volume key off won't stop it. Neither will unchecking the Alarm activator. Neither will using a task killer.

It seems that once this happens, the ONLY way to make it shut up is to turn the phone completely off.

I've been faced with this nearly a half-dozen times now. Particularly if I'm using it to awaken from a nap, and drowsily hit home/off instead of sliding down or snoozing.

Not only is this annoying, but I dread the thought of it happening in a classroom or library... knowing that it'll take a good 8-10seconds of sheer annoyance to others, before I'm able to make the thing quiet.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a known fix?

I have the same issue, but thought the lock screen app was causing it. I guess it is good to know that it wasn't that app. Not so good to know there is an issue with my phone :(

Look on the bright side: could be worse. At least this seems like something that could be rather easily fixed when brought to programmers' attention, probably in an o.t.a. upgrade.

Imagine how HD2 or Blackberry 8220 owners felt.

I'm having the same issue. This problem also occurs when your talking via blue tooth, it beeps as if someone is calling you (call waiting), and when you look at the phone there is no dismiss/snooze button. How do we submit this bug to the programmers?

I had this issue once, i woke up from my alarm and when i looked at my phone it was like nothing was happening but my alarm was going off i just rebooted it and haven't had that problem since. I use the stock Desk Clock app and i don't have a lock screen app, don't see the point when the stock one works just fine.

All,
I found this little solution.
I have experience the similar situation, except that my kids wakes up every time alarm goes off and in half asleep state when I tried to drag the slider but couldn't able to do it.
Also it happens some time that the snooze option appears for like some 10-15 seconds I guess before it disappears for good and alarm continues to beep until I have to restart the phone, I have done everything to avoid the reboot but couldn't able to do it.

So I did some digging and found this solution hopes helps others like me.
1. GO to desk clock and then to Alarm tab.
2. Then on Alarm screen click setting button(==)which is next right to home screen, where you get three options Add Alarm, Delete and Settings.
3. Click settings, where you can see 4 options.
4. Select Side Button Behavior(Set the desired behavior of the side buttons when pressed during alarm).
5. Once you click that setting you will now get three options A. None(if you click side button during alarm nothing happens) B. Snooze(The alarm will go to snooze if you click any side button during alarm) and C. Dismiss(The alarm will dismiss if you click any side button during alarm).
Choose option C dismiss.
Since snooze is always there on screen when alarm goes off, without even slider we can select snooze, but once the alarm goes off and we could not able to dismiss on time then this setting helps.
I have tested few times with all the side buttons and it works fine.

Hope this helps.

So I recently (and by recently I mean I just woke up 15 minutes ago) ran into this issue and decided I would work on it until I figured it out without a reboot. The answer is the Htc set up is counter-intuitive. What you do to turn off the alarm once you are away from the lock screen is bring up your alarm settings, long press on the culprit alarm setting and this will give the opposition to dismiss the alarm again. Kinda dumb that trying to lock the phone to bring up slide to snooze/dismiss doesn't work. Hope this helps.

So ran into the problem today, and neither solution worked! Had to reboot. Ugh!

...I can't believe HTC hasn't come up with an update for this, considering how common it seems to be!

I have the same issue with a new Nexus S. If you catch it while the screen with "snooze" and "dismiss" is up, great. But if you hit the home button, then you can't shut it off...

...but you CAN (at least on my Nexus S).

  1. Drag the status bar down to see the list of current apps.
  2. Tap on the alarm that's ringing. This will bring up the snooze and dismiss buttons.
  3. Tap dismiss. Alarm is off.
I'm calling this a workaround, not a fix. It is still kludgey, but at least it doesn't require popping out the battery.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

I recently purchased a Z3 and my alarm won't shut off. I can't even find the dismiss or snooze on the drop down menu. The only way I can get it to shut off is open the alarm app, and change the time, then shut off the alarm with the slide tab. Any ideas besides a hammer

Same alarm issue with Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, brand new, bought from VZW store this week. With issue, avoid using snooze, but at least the Morning Dawn Chorus is not bad (soothing) for a minute before it shuts off by itself. Issue started daily before installing any new apps on the phone. Used online chat with Samsung, and tech there remoted into my phone (using SmartTutor at Google Play store, pretty cool tech). He was able to duplicate the issue of not being able to manually shut off the alarm (watched him as he took control of my phone during our chat session). Pressing the big X button that appears on the bottom part of the screen when the alarm goes off did not work for him either (he tried twice). He opened ticket 2136992863 as no one from his search of their database had reported the issue directly to Samsung before. He confirmed my phone had latest software update. He suggested a factory reset or sending in the phone for repair, but with a new phone less than a week old and already installed apps and storing data, too much time pain as phone is working well otherwise. The more of us who report the issue directly to Samsung via online chat or calling 1-888-987-4357, Mon-Fri: 7 AM - 2 AM (CST), Sat: 9 AM - 10 PM (CST), am more hopeful that a future software upgrade will resolve the issue.

The solution to this turned out to be quite simple.
Go to settings>personalisation >manage notifications >all, then go to the clock and put a tick in the empty box.
After doing that, your clock will show the snooze and dismiss touch buttons correctly and any side button you enabled will work also.
I stumbledbupon this fix in another forum and it worked easily for me...hopefully it will help you too.

Found the solution on Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, maybe will also work on like phones. This is for when pressing the big X on the screen when the alarm clock goes off does not work. Press Phone icon (home screen), three vertical dots (upper right of next screen), Settings, Call, Answering/ending calls, place a check mark on the line Pressing the Home Key for Answer Calls by. Home Key (for newbies) is the long horizontal physical button below your smartphone screen. Setting this option 1) answers calls (of course), 2) shuts off the alarm when it goes off.

Dragging down doesn't work, as no alarm message appears, just the regular notifications. No personalization option on my Coolpad Arise either, and I don't think I'm hitting the wrong button at all. It's just that sometimes deactivating the alarm doesn't work. It's not supposed to disappear when you slide and miss, I've done that often enough to know. But once in awhile it does.

Dismissing the alarm manually while it's ringing seems more of a pain than just rebooting. Trying the side button dismiss option.

If that doesn't work, maybe just keep rebooting or else send Google email and hope they care enough to respond. Which I doubt. This has been going on for at least 4 years and it still isn't fixed.

So, I'm no expert, but after just purchasing the Motorola Droid Turbo 2, I couldn't snooze, dismiss my alarms or anything. It would only shut off, if I deleted the alarm.

The good news, is that I found a solution. Which should be possible on other devices.

Under the apps device list, or a similar menu, which shows the app info, for the phone's clock, I uninstalled all updates and it says "return to factory setting", after doing so, alarm is finally working as intended.

So, if this is still an issue, give it a try. In the meantime, I hope Android can get its s*@% together.

In case this helps someone...

I found I had blocked notifications from the Clock App. I fixed this by going to:

Settings - Sound and Notifications - App Notifications - Clock - {uncheck} Block: Never show notifications from this app.

I have a similar issue. I have an alarm set for 615 every day. However everyday i will also get a random alarm at 6:36 I did not set. No notification, no ability to turn it off or snooze, nothing. The only way to turn it off is to restart my phone.
