Help Alarm Disabled in Silent Mode of Lollipop

IHateMyTreo

Others have posted and it is in fact true. The alarm will not override silent ("no interruptions") mode. Even if the Clock app is made a "priority" it will not sound. Both VZW and LG CSR's confirm it. It is NOT a "bug" according to LG. Moronic.

p.s. can anyone recommend an alarm clock app that can definitely override the new silent mode in Lollipop?

I believe when you turn on silent mode it tells you this... not sure why this is surprising. If you need the alarm clock but don't want the ringer on, turn the ringer off in the volume menu.

I use Alarm Clock Plus. I have used it over several Android devices (Samsung x 2, LG x 2), and over several OS versions (4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 5.0). I am currently using it on 5.01. My alarm is set weekdays for 5:45 AM but is in Silent Mode until 6:00 AM (meaning it is set to go off while still in Silent Mode). Throughout the past 3 years, Alarm Clock Plus has NEVER let me down. Even if I shuffle the directories that my music/alarm tones/etc. are in (and I forgot to point Alarm Clock Plus at the new location of the sound files), it automatically falls back to a default built-in alarm sound so that at least SOMETHING goes off instead of nothing. Then later I can change the alarm sound back to whatever I wish.

This is the free version linked below, has ads but full functionality. I do not remember what it cost to upgrade to the non-ad version but that was years ago and I have not had any reason to look for any other alarm app.

This has been updated in Android 5.1, but I expect a few months before the G3 gets that version. There are a few options to get around this in the meantime.

1) Instead of clicking on the Sound button in the notification panel (which toggles between Silent/Vibrate/Sound), just hit your volume button up or down. A window will pop up and you can then choose Silent/Do Not Disturb from there. That method will give you an option to set the amount of time you want the Do Not Disturb to be on. So if you know your Alarm is set for 8.5 hours from now, set that to 8 hours so you know your alarm won't be disabled anymore.

2) An even better option is to go into Settings/Sound/Do Not Disturb and set up a schedule. For example, I have my Do Not Disturb schedule from 10:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. You can set Priority Calls or Messages to override the DND if you like. But regardless, alarms are not impacted by this schedule. It blocks all notifications, unless you choose the Priority options, but yet your alarm will still sound even if within that window. My alarm is typically at 6 each morning and it goes off w/o a hitch using this schedule.

While not ideal (an option for Silent to not block alarms would be better), at least they are better than nothing.
