Alarming: Unwanted Screenshots Found in sdcard/ScreenCapture folder?

imb

Lurker
I found out that there are 2 screenshots in my "sdcard/ScreenCapture" folder that I never did. I also found out (when I was browsing Settings > Manage Application > Running) that the android built-in screenshot tool is running even though I never run it or know how to run it. I never downloaded any screen capture app so I'm quite surprised to find these unwanted screenshots. Could the screenshots come from other apps that I've downloaded and they are secretly getting screenshots?

What phone? Some phones don't need root or apps for screen shots. Just a combo of button presses.

Galaxy Ace. After searching what you mean, you are correct. However when I do it I can hear a camera shutter sound but I've never heard any sound before I found the screenshots.

Are they pages you've bookmarked in your browser?

Nope. The screenshots where an on-call screen where there's an image of the person you're taking to + number, and a screenshot of the settings screen.

I've got a couple of videos in my phone and when I went in to the DCIM file, I found a screen shot from each of the videos I had in there. No idea how, but they were there!

to take a screenshot with the ace, all it takes is to press back and home button. in your case, it was probably your cheek pushing against the buttons while you were talking on the phone

Post pics or it didn't happen

Please do some research before posting non-helpful suggestions-they waste space and help no one.

As for the original post-the unwanted screen capture phenomenon seems to appear on other devices. I have noticed similar posts regarding your problem and it seems to be a software issue and was happening frequently and under a wide variety of circumstances-texting people, reading emails, watching movies, etc.

After some poking around, I have found a possible solution posted by another user that you may want to try. This involves using the commands in the phone dialer to update the key software.

Steps:
1-Open phone dialer

2-Press the buttons INSIDE the parenthesis (*#*#2663#*#*)

3-Look at 2 different touch screen firmware versions.

4-I am too lazy to rewrite the screen here, but you dont need that info. Just look at the version number. If they match then you have another problem. If they do not match 22/21 etc, then update them one at a time and your problem should be fixed.

Goodluck.

*I found this method to work on my Samsung Vibrant. Hopefully it will work on your device.
