Help Alcatel OT 983 Stuck on Setup Wizard, cannot access phone!

Hi there, I'm having a major problem trying to fix this and I'm tearing my hair out!

I did a hard reset of my Alcatel One Touch 983, but I can't get past the setup wizard when I switch it on. I get as far as trying to log into my google account when I get the following message:

The application Setup Wizard (Process
com.jrdcom.JrdSetupWizard) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

There is no way I can skip the wizard, or get out of it - it just gives that message and when you press OK it goes right back to the start. I can't get into the menu or any other part of the phone to avoid this.

I've looked all over for a possible solution for this but no joy. I've tried to reinstall the firmware by using the one touch upgrade tool, but it says I already have the most recent version and won't do anything. I've downloaded a firmware, but there's no recovery menu function on the phone that I can use to install it.

I've also tried to get into recovery using cmd, but it says it cant detect the device. I've tried installing different drivers, but Windows says it already has drivers and also won't do anything.

I've also called Alcatel support, but the person I spoke to didn't seem to understand what I was saying and was pretty unhelpful - he said he'd immediately send me settings by email which should fix it - I'm still waiting on the email more than a day later.

Can any of you nice people help? I'm about to chuck the blasted thing through a window!

I had the same problem.

First of all, check Alcatel OT983 - restoring bricked ROM using One Touch Upgrade on xda - developers (sorry I'm new and cannot post links)

I tried to download the 1.63 upgrade from Alcatel, but Avast wouldn't let me, stating the file was suspect. I was able to download the ONE TOUCH Upgrade NB 1.0.3 Setup_MedocLite from elsewhere on their support site.

I installed this and ran it.

Good news: I've got a working android

Bad news: Simple Root Checker - Free tells me I've still got a rooted phone, Terminal emulation won't give me the su # prompt. When I install Link2sd it won't grant the necessary root access. I've tried downloading superuser. I've tried re-rooting but no joy.

Hi there, thanks for replying.

I've already tried to restore the phone using the One Touch Update - and it keeps on saying the software is up to date and won't do anything. I'll just need to keep looking for another solution.
