Alchemy

I had 75 made and I was playing with the settings and wiped out things I already had made, I cannot for the life of me make metal or electricity again. PLease help. But on a brighter note, reseting helped me make cool things i didnt before like the 1up mushroom and a few others.

Metal is Lava and water, I don't remember electricity right now.

Hey just finished getting all 270 elements and found that a few obvious ones were missing so i thought I would post my ideas and see what everyone thinks:

Raisin = Sun + Grapes
Bowser = Dragon + 1UP
Milkshake = Milk + Ice
Cold = Cloud + Wind
Ice = Cold + Water
Smoothie = Milk + Berry
Frozen Coke = Ice + Coca-Cola
Abominable Snowman = Ice + Beast
Eskimo = Ice + Man
Igloo = Ice + Hut
Evergreen = Cold + Tree
Birdo = Bird + 1UP
Koopa = Turtle + 1UP
Goomba or Toadstool = Mushroom + 1UP
Ghostbuster = Ghost or Ectoplasm + Man
Mine = Stone + Tool
Gold = Mine + Earth
Jewelery = Gold + Diamond
Duck = Bird + Water
Platypus = Duck + Beast

If I think up any others I will post them later.

I have tried to figure it out, and have done every combo I can think of for milk, soured milk etc and can't make cheese, help? Or cold.

I hope you put all those in the suggestion box. I like how you can suggest combos within the app (in the menu).

I thought of some of the same things. One of the existing combos that is severely lacking is Sushi--Fish + Algae...fail. Really that combo is fine, but Fish + Knife = nothing. THAT is the real fail :)

I also thought of:
James Bond = Assassin + Car
Pie = Dough + Any fruit
Cake batter = Flour + Egg
Cake = Cake Batter + Fire
DeLorean (Back to the Future) = Time + Car
Rocket Fuel = Scientist + Gunpowder
Rocket = Rocket Fuel + Airplane
Astronaut (or Major Tom) = Rocket + Man
Laura Croft = Grave + Man
Paleontologist = Scientist + Fossil
Laser = Light + Glass | Scientist + Light
X-Wing = Laser + Rocket

Some of those came to me as I was typing!

This is probably the dumbest game ever invented. It makes no sense. You just randomly drag items around and it's a rare occasion when you actually think this+this = that.

But at the same time it's addicting. I play it for a few minutes and forget it and come back later.

I had quite the opposite reaction. Most of the combos made perfect sense to me. There are some that are pretty dumb, IMO, but still managed to get a group of 4-5 of us around the office to complete all 270 just using a little creative thinking.

I also never did the old "put all on the screen and drag stuff around randomly" to get matches.

Some of the strange combos for me were:
SPOILERS INSIDE!!
--Coca Cola (Carmine + Soda Water) Carmine is a dye, not a syrup!! Sugar + Soda water would have made much more sense.
--Lighthouse (Skyscraper + Light) I know skyscrapers and lighthouses are tall but they are very very different from each other. Everyone at the office though of mixing a hut/house/brick house with light but didn't think of a skyscraper until much much later.
--Sushi (Fish + Algae) Yes, some sushi has seaweed wrap but not nearly all sushi. Fish + Knife did nothing which is what it should have been 1st and foremost, IMO. I only got nit-picky because the most obvious pairing, to me and others, was the knife--not the seaweed/algae.
--Weevil (Beetle + Sand (I think)) Maybe it's just me but when I think of a weevil I think of the famous bol-weevil (Cotton eater). Looking on Wikipedia about weevils, I discovered no real obvious link to sand. In any case, combining Beetle with cloth, seeds or wheat would have been much better choices.
All in all, I love this game and appreciate the creator for making it free!

Weevil makes perfect sense if you think of it in terms of kitchen cupboards...I think what you're remembering is the scarab.

I've got 12 to go and am thoroughly stuck on zoo (which ought to be beast + library to my mind, but isn't) - can anyone give me a hint?

Try thinking of cheese as *blank* that has solidified and has *blank* growing on it... sounds dumb but that should tell you what two elements to use, without blatantly telling you what two elements to use... sort of... rather obvious but who cares... :D

Sweet ideas didn't know I could make suggestions since I use the free version. Will see if it will let me. If not decided to put a couple more I thought up on here:

Money = Gold + Man
Bank = Money + Brick House
Nest Egg = Money + Egg
Scrooge McDuck = Money + Duck
Necromancer = Man + Undead
Flamethrower = Firearm + Fire
Ninja = Assassin + Arms
Mafia = Assassin + Money
Police = Man + Prisoner

Oh BTW Vampire + Werewolf should have equaled Underworld NOT TWILIGHT SAGA!!!

When you want to look at art, you go to an art *blank*. When you want to look at animals, you go to the zoo, which is an animal *blank*.

Hope that helps. :)

Hmm, already tried all the building/institution-type icons I had (brick house, etc)...perhaps it calls for something I haven't got yet. Thanks though! I think I see what I need to make next.

I have the first element and the soured version, bacteria algae grass mushrooms and life didnt work, but can't figure how to get mold or cold. pm if you dont want to reveal to everyone

I very much agree! I still laughed when I saw it happen though.

Yes indeed. If you have tried all the building combos you are definitely missing the item you need for Zoo. When you get it you will know what to do with it.

One additional bit of help for that missing item, if you want it is...
Along the same line of thinking that riskybiz_87 introduced earlier, think of the same place you would go to see modern and ancient art and think about what else is commonly at those venues.

I can't get time and Quetzicotl...

A simple wiki lookup gave me the makeup for Quetzicotl immediately. It's the part that tells you what the word actually means.

For time, think of what item tells time, and try to make that item. Old times, not a watch.

Whats everyones strategy for this game. Do you put every element on the board and see what you can come up with? Maybe you scroll through the elements and pick individual ones and add them? Just curious, thanks.

I use logic first, only do trial-and-error when I'm out of ideas.

Same here. Lots and lots of combos are chains. Once I discovered a new element my mind started racing. When it wasn't part of a chain it was just experimentation. It also helped that there were 3-4 others in my office that were playing too so we'd have little conversations here and there on what we discovered.

I think the longest active chain I had going in one session was the Petroleum chain--from the very beginning combination that leads up to Petrol all the way up to most of the vehicles that come along with a combustion engine! That was a long session but I was on a roll!

I totally agree about the lighthouse. Some of the combos aren't very logical, and then some of the logical combos don't work. Great game, but needs some work.

Weevil was flour+beetle, I believe.

Thanks nihilanth, I know what I need to make but it's proving unexpectedly difficult... Speaking of difficulty, is the bat in one of the lists posted in this thread a flying mammal or a baseball implement?
