Agree! I had a similar problem on a small Samsung phone a few years ago. In the end I 'modified' my MP3 ringtones on the PC (increased the volume) using "Sound Recorder", then transferred the MP3 back onto the phone. Not ideal, but helped!

How about yes and no, the sound recorder method definitely works, but, you need the hero to play custom sounds, which it will do for ringtones, start playing the track in music player, then options/menu, select as ringtone, BUT you need to trim it first otherwise you end up with 5mins of tone.
