How do I retrieve text messages that have been deleted by my phone? I have a Droid 4 and it shut off one time and when I turned it back on, all of my text messaging conversations were gone! ugh!

If the messages have actually been deleted, there is no way. You could try rebooting to see whether it is just a glitch that they are not showing. Or install a 3rd party SMS app (Handcent, Chomp, etc) and see whether it can see the messages (in case the message database is still there but your messaging app is failing to see it). But I fear that there will be nothing you can do. Unless you are rooted you won't even be able to look to see whether the database still exists (it is in a folder that the unrooted user doesn't have direct access to).

The only thing you can do is back them up in case this happens again. There are many SMS Backup apps in the Play Store. But unfortunately that will not help recover the lost messages.

Sorry :(

I have seen a couple of apps in the Play Store that claim to do it, but they cost money and require your phone to be rooted, and don't have the greatest reviews. I don't know of any simple way to recover deleted texts. Like anything deleted on a computer, its not really erased but the operating system just ignores that data until it gets overwritten. Its a matter of having the right tools to recover it. Its not like the recycle bin on your computer where you can just click to restore items.

Try searching the play store for apps that will recover deleted text messages, read the reviews and see if they are worth a shot.

Hopefully someone else can chime in with some more info.
