Allience ROM + Dorimanx V8.0

I am running Allience ROM v8.0 and I have read on the thread that Dorimanx is compatible and it is on the ROM Customiser pre installed so I downloaded it as stock Kernel seems a bit laggy and Dorimanx in the past, I believe has been good.
Am I understanding right that you don't usually have to wipe everything to flash a kernel, you can usually just flash over the top?
I have tried flashing through ROM Customizer but it didn't work so I booted into recovery and tried flashing it and seemed OK but then when I reset the phone it just came up with the Dorimanx Logo and turned off and that is all it would do. I tried again and same thing.
If I select install from zip is that just trying to overwrite my whole current ROM? When I reflashed allience all was OK again but I would like to use Siyah or Dorimanx to overcome the responsiveness lag.
Any suggestions please?

I was worried the first couple of times I booted it up got past the Dorimanx logo and past Alliance boot screen and looked like it started OK but the crashed there and wasn't able to unlock or anything. but third reset was the charm. I will now keep it running and let it settle in and see how it goes. Thanks again.
 
Spoke too soon, some times when the screen sleeps the I can't wake it up. It is obviously still on as when I connect it to computer is comes up as external drive. Any Ideas please?
 
hmm i dont have experience with alliance rom. I use Neat rom and dont have anny issues :) you should try it.
btw. when u flashed Hawkers script did you flashed kernel straight away or u did reboot ? If so try again, flash script and immediatly kernel and then reboot.
 
I tend to only last a month or so at most with each ROM and then flash a new one anyway so I will probably give Neat ROM a go next. I just love how customizable this one is (when I can use it lol) so if I can get it running properly I may stick with it a while.
I flashed Hawkers script , then flashed the kernel then rebooted.
Anyway, touchwood, the phone hasn't actually crashed, or stayed asleep, since the last post so it may be something to do with while it was charging. I will give it a little while to settle in now and let you know. Thanks.
 
OK I have stuck with this kernel now for a few days now and it hasn't crashed since but it is still pretty laggy and the battery isn't very good in my opinion. I have read through posts by ironass and hawker about how to get the most out of the battery (using different and as few widgets as poss, freezing unnecessary apps uninstalling etc etc) but I am only getting about 10hrs max even when I am at work and not even using the phone at all apart from about 3/4 txts and maybe a phone call or two. I get up at 6 and by the time I get home it is dead, or very nearly. Most other roms I have used have managed to keep it going until I go to bed with some moderate usage (more calls and texts and even a few games/books). I don't know but I guess the ROM could be to blame, does that sound possible? Do you know if philz kernel would work with Alliance? If you agree the ROM might be to blame, would you say Neat ROM has a pretty good battery life?
Lately I have also hit another problem. Whenever I use the stock Gallery I get a message saying something along the lines of "memory full, delete some pictures, videos etc". I know I have plenty of memory though but I have deleted quite a bit anyway and I still get the error. I can use other apps to see my pics etc and they work but obviously it causes problem if I want to see a pic that I have just taken or I want to send a pic on viber/whatsapp etc.
Any help much appreciated and thanks in advance.
