No, you shouldn't need a wifi network, for your charge to communicate with your pc, via Allshare.

I believe Samsungs Allshare is actually something called DLNA, a new standard, electronics manufacturers are using , which enables different devices, by different manufacturers, i.e. phones, TV's, printers, to communicate and share files with each other wirelessly !

Actually, I think you do need to be on wifi for it to work. I tried launching it with wifi off (data on) and I get the error "Connect to Wi-Fi network to use AllShare", then it takes me to the wifi settings screen.

I played around with it last night... it's neat, but appears to be very slow. Even bringing up a picture took quite a few seconds. Video takes way too long, then stutters. This was on two different Charges, two different PCs, and even using Connectify to connect the charge direct the the PC without a router.

I'll stick with USB file transfer and HDMI video output.

Good find tho, it may yet have its uses! Perhaps someone has a TV with built-in DLNA and can test that?
