Aloha

Aloha,

After about a year of debating and worrying about voiding the warranty, I finally gave in and rooted my droid because at stock, it was running too slow. My wife was ready to take me over to the iphone because they are available on Verizon now. I told her, "I'm gonna try one last thing..." Well, after rooting and researching, and downloading all of the mentioned apps, my phone is running much quicker. The thing is, I've been unsucessful with flashing a custom rom. I tried Ultimate Droid, Cyanogen, Liquid Yogurt, and a few others. For most of them, I get them to download (through ROM Manager), but when they reboot, they never get passed the loading screen. (I think that's what it called.) For example, UD never got passed the rotating UD. What am I doing wrong? The only thing that was successful in loading was one of Slayers Kernals (1100) but I've since rebooted to the normal stock Kernal. Is this the problem? Should I be downloading a custom kernal first? (Forgive my ignorance with the terminology, trying to learn.) I want to see what it's like to load a custom rom and hopefully get good at everything you guys are talking about here. Thank you so much for the help!

Is it because I'm not wiping the data and cache? Or should I be waiting longer. The longest I've waited was 30 min with UD. Earlier 20 min for Liquid Yogurt.

Thanks for the welcome. I have a droid. Yes, that is the exact areas I've been burying myself in. Still trying to get all the terminology down. Awesome people here!
