Already cracked my G1. Replacement parts???

Mine is pretty bad too, screen is cracked but it all still fully works, so mine is just a case of replace the top glass or plastic whatever it is....
 
okay so if i did buy a phone off of craigslist/ebay, exactly what do I need to do to make sure the phone is ok to buy?

and is all i have to do is put my sim card in the new one and just go?!
 
I don't have a cracked screen, however, the case is cracked at the menu/back button area. It appears that it may be that sooner or later all users will be having the same problem, especially if they have large fingers. With the buttons recessed I am sure this will happen. Anyone have this issue yet. Just looks bad with a cracked phone.
