Alternative to Helium for app data backup

I have a Galaxy S4 not rooted using Jelly Bean. I tried using Helium to back up app data numerous times, but it never works. Almost every time the GUI crashes within 3 seconds of the backup starting. The notification panel shows Helium is still running. It continues for 1-2 more apps then freezes. On the rare occasions the GUI doesn't crash right away, the backup continues until about ⅔ complete and then it will freeze. Either way the carbon folder on the SD card is empty.

I did the crash report many times. Now it has been almost a year without an app data backup. It's past time to give up and find another solution.

Helium is probably the only choice you have for unrooted phones. If you need a backup similar to Helium, you'll have yo go Titanium backup and it needs root.

you may also want to try turning other apps off before running helium it could be having issues because of another running app.
