Alternative to SMS Backup + ?

Newbie
For some reason SMS Backup + stopped working, and call log and sms was not updated.

Problem is that calls does not get put in the calendar, so any alternatives that works?

I use SMS Backup & Restore (Ritesh Sahu) to backup my SMS messages to my SD card. You can move that file to your PC and use a browser to view the logs as an XML files (see Developer's FAQ on depeloper's website). On the Preferences settings for the app, make sure you enable "Add XSL Tag, Add Readable Date, and Add Contact Names" and set the "Readable Date format".

The developer makes a similar app for Call Logs backup called Call Logs Backup & Restore.

I prefer to have a history of my calls (incoming, outgoing, missed) tracked on a Google calendar (you can have multiple calendars for a particular Gmail account so I created a calendar called "Call Log" to track my calls) so I use an app called CallTrack (asterdroid mobile) instead. I can even use a calendar app like Business Calendar to view that calendar with the call logs on my phone and call a particular phone number.

MyBackup Pro.

Works for SMS, Apps, Homescreen, Settings... pretty much everything on your phone and more if you are rooted (you could just choose SMS alone if you wan though). I HIGHLY recommend it:D

At Handcent we have a service called Backup Security that backs up all your SMS and MMS messages in addition to your Handcent application settings for as low as $3.99 a year. These backups can be made to our online servers or your SD card. We're actually working on getting backups to SD cards to be a free feature in the upcoming release of Handcent 4. However, due to the bandwidth costs of having users uploading and downloading SMS and MMS messages we will still need to offset that by offering it as a premium subscription or we won't be able to pay our server bills. :)

Handcent SMS is and always will be free, but Handcent survives on one-time and subscription donations to support future developments and bandwidth-hogging features. :)

WAnted something to backup to google, online. Already have mybackup and saved me a few times.

Tried calltrack on a new calendar, "calllogs" and worked fine.

sms+ backed up sms and calls also to gmail and calls to the calendar.

There is an app "Backup to Gmail" I use it long time. works fine. It can back up your sms/mms/call log to a tagged folder in your Gmail. There you can work with it keep or delete. this bck does not affect your actions on the phone. You still can delete or lock or whatever you want to do with it "locally" the copy goes to Gmail.

Is it possible to use this app to backup existing SMS and MMS messages which have already been received on the phone prior to the Handcent app's installation?

Thanks!

I would have thought so. SMS apps like Handcent (Chomp, Textra, Hello, Evolve, Go, Easy, ....) are just different "front ends", and all use the same message database.

SMS Backup+, which is the subject of this thread, will back up all messages to your GMail account. In fact there are an awful lot of message backup options in the Play Store, depending on your requirements.
