How can I make it so the volume rockers always adjust media and not the ringer.

The volume buttons are context sensitive. When you're playing media within a media app the volume buttons should adjust the media volume only (if the app was written correctly). The ringer volume should be unaffected upon exiting the app. For what specific situation are you trying to prevent ringer volume change?

On my BB10 phone, I could set it, so no matter what, pressing the volume button controlled media. Nothing else, only way to control notification was to go into the settings. You could also long press the volume buttons to change songs. On android, at night, sleeping next to my girl, I'll put on a video. Because you can only control the volume after the video starts playing, it's VERY loud. I just want to be able to have the volume buttons only control media. Just as My BlackBerry has always done for me in the past.
If you go to Settings - Sound & Notification - Volumes, you can set Music and Video as low as you want to, your music and video will start at that level and then use the volume control to set the desired level, or perhaps set the volume low before exiting music/video mode.

Bear with me, but I don't quite understand what exactly you want to disable
.As BA100 said, when you are in music/video mode the volume buttons do only control music/video sound level.

I want to Turn off the option to adjust ringer volume when pressing the volume keys. I want it to always be media volume, no matter what.
I think the only way you could achieve this would be to find a third party app.
I can understand you missing a function from a previous device and wanting to replicate it on a new device, but to be honest I'm struggling to see any actual benefit in altering the sound control in this way.

Everything in Android seems to take just one more step than BB10 does.
I should, like in iOS and BlackBerry 10. oh and even BBos which people seem to hate, be able to set it so only the volume rocker control media. I shouldn't need to spend time converting videos, I shouldn't need to..
1: Hope to remember to turn down the volume by pressing the volume down key, pressing the Settings symbol, then sliding down the middle one that says Media, which is between ringer and alarm.
2: Download 3 apps, root the phone and hope it works.
Like I said, bb10 and ios just let you disable ringer volume, hell bb10 from my use has quick settings you can pull down from the top that even if you did disable the ringer, you can still toggle it on and off using the quick setting.
It's just a convenience thing. Not having to spend all those steps fixing volumes before I open an app and have it blast me with sound is annoying. I just want to be able to, like iOS and BB10 and BBos, press a button a few times be done with it. Not press the button, open the small volume widget, adjust the thing then press the same amount of clicks to turn it down.
Also, adjusting volume while biking and switching songs on BB10 and BBos is EASY.

ugh, pausing a song when someone needs to talk to you... BB10 and BBos you just press the mute button, nothing else. Android ive found you need to turn the phone on, and then pause it, or if your in an app, quickly pull down and find the right touch screen button.
YES I know, I can just use my BB10 phone. But I wanted to try android because it's supposed to be the ultimate in efficiency. But it really isn't, it's just an awesome app player, with the phone tacked on there.
And dont even get me started on Messaging and Notification management. Hub has everyone beat.

The only people who refer to any of these operating systems as the ultimate in efficiency are the OS creators, advertisers and pure die-hard fanboys. You won't find many of those folks here BriniaSona. This is just a guess not having used Blackberry or iOS devices but my guess is those devices use the hardware control (Volume Rockers) for music only and you do ringtones and notifications using a software slider in an app... Is that correct?

Yes, but if you want to, you can make it the other way, or the same as android.

After checking my notes I found that Google did this on purpose in the Lollipop OS 
Unless Google reverses its decision rooting and/or third party apps are your only hope to go back to the way you prefer your device. Google thinks it's a step forward or maybe progress for progress sake; I think they forgot the sage old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
