Help Always on internet

Hey

Just got my Samsung Galaxy S, on my HTC Hero i had the option to turn off always on internet. Is there a way of doing that on this phone? I see the G icon all the time.

Thanks

Go into settings-wireless+network-mobile networks and uncheck use packet data. You can get widgets that do it all for you.

Itll be off and you will need to turn it on again if you need it. You can turn of the background data so the phone isn't always updating and syncing. Just go into accounts and sync in settings and uncheck everything. I do this. Saves alot of battery. You do need to turn on the background data when you use the android market though.

Press the power button on the side of the phone for a second,
A sub menu will show on the screen
Select data network mode to "off"

Thats what I do.

OK thanks for your advice... Seems i cant do what my 2.1 version phone did.

Depends what you mean by that, i had a Hero before getting a galaxy S.

Android phones are built to have internet on that's why google built it.

The internet will only be used if an application needs to use it, just because it on doesn't mean it's being used every single minute and the G that you see is just stating what kind of connection you have.

There a plenty of free widgets in the market that can easily switch off internet/syncing etc from the home screens as said above you can go into settings or long press the power button.

You may be talking about the widgets that came with sense on the Hero, similar stuff are available in the Android market.

No, on my Hero i had an option to untick "always on internet" Maybe with the new software it automatically does it.

Hi all,I recently bought the Samsung I9010 (or somethin like that, the Armani one) - i'm not really that knowledgeable on my phones, as you may have already noticed.. Anyway, the battery life on it is terrible. I'm gettin 6-7 hours out of it before its gone. I went back to phones4u and the guy told me to download that advanced task killer, but that doesnt seem to have done anything.I noticed on another thread you can check on whats using your battery life and my top one is Internet, then Messaging, then 'TwLauncher' (what ever that is??). Croftyboy8 your advice on this thread seemed pretty simple, what does deactivating that Data Network Mode actually do? Will I still receive notifications from things like Facebook, googemail, pingchat etc?Any help will be much appreciated 'cos i'm gettin sick to death of having to charge this phone.Cheers
