Am I expecting too much?

I am currently debating taking this phone back to Radioshack and holding off on a smartphone until I can drop at least $150+ for decent hardware. I recently ditched my 4th gen iPod Touch and flip-phone in favor of the Hydro.

After a few days, the phone was running and loading very slowly. I tinkered with dev options (which I found were useless for average joes like myself), and finally ended up deleting many apps that ran in the background (any.do, avast!, AdBlock Plus) in an effort to increase my performance.

Before deleting those apps, I would be unable to make calls at times, unable to send a text, and my Zedge ringtones continuously switch back to the Curve Ball Blend time and time again.

My main complaint is that I cannot game on this phone - very few games work well, or work at all, with games like ruzzle and 4pics1word being the exceptions.

What can I do to increase the performance of this phone? I have literally NO front service apps running and disabling background services thru dev options feels useless (in fact, I heard it's just a bad idea in general).

I have been browsing this forum watching the progress of root/recovery and wanted to wait for recovery to become possible before attempting to root my phone. However, I don't think that this will alleviate my gripes with the Hydro.

Am I expecting too much? I have 30 days to return this phone and it's only been around a week and a half. Any help, tips, or just comments period will be appreciated.

It sounds like you will never be happy with this phone. It already can't do much of what you want; I think the more you learn to mess around with smart phones the less happy this phone will make you.

You raise a good point... my plan as of now is to return this and just grab a POS phone that can call and text.

Not sure whats causing all the problems you are having.
i play dead trigger on mine with no issues except i hate the onscreen controls and usually pair up a Wii controller to play.
I mean it's no dual core samsung, but it's not supposed to be that.

I think it has something to do with memory problems on the phone. But I'm rooted and working on it. There's only a few games that simply refuse to work.

I agree your not happy now with this phone holding out wont change your mind . Honestly I owned this phone . For one wk . .. Im not saying that the hydro is a bad phone. It just isnt for me . And from the sounds of it , it isnt for you neither .

The Hydro is an average phone. I'd put it on the entry level with the ZTE Warp. The Hydro is really meant IMO for people who just want the ability to check their email, take quick pictures at decent quality, and make phone calls on one device. If you bought this phone expecting to game on it, you got the wrong phone sorry to say. You get what you pay for especially when it comes to consumer electronics. If you really want to game that badly on prepaid, drop $300 for an HTC One SV. Best Android phone on prepaid IMO right now.

Use chainfire 3d given it works and depending on your setup click one of the 16 boxs with nvidia plugin.Forementioned decreases overall stress on phone also make sure to use V6 which I posted how a few mins ago in this thread.Make sure to move all games to SD and not have them all sitting on phone equating more stress
