Amazing Applications

Hi, I have an android and am wondering when getting started on the amazing apps I've heard so much about.
I know about ones such as Locale, strava, Gmote. However I was wondering of other things I can do with this android that Iphones just can't.

Also is there a way other than Gmote of being able to control my windows (or Ubuntu) computer without being in the same Wifi network?

thanks in advance :)

When i bought my Android phone the first thing i installed was Angry Birds :D then i downloaded App2SD (to move the applications from internal memory to external - SD) and a weather app..

Welcome to the world of Android. As far as what can Android do that the iPhone can do. I can only think of these three things. (Total customization of home screens, viewing of flash video playback and widgets.)

As far as apps go, I believe for the most popular apps, you can find the same app or something similar to it.

If you read the whole "Favorite app so far" thread above you'll have no shortage of things to try. I find most apps "amazing".

Tasker.

It took me over two years to finally get it (it costs US$6.49), and it's the only applications I've actually paid money for, but it's worth every penny.

The app is amazing and does just about anything you want. If you go to the Tasker website, you can get a free week trial. There are lots of free Tasker profiles you can download.

However I was wondering of other things I can do with this android that Iphones just can't.

Let me see:

  • Visit Flash websites
  • Run apps that compete with Apple's own released or pending apps
  • Run emulators
  • Store data on an SD card
  • Show 1280x720 videos & games
  • True multitasking

;)

Better Google Voice integration, ability to send certain contacts straight to voicemail, widgets, turn-by-turn Navigation without having to use Mapquest, ability to set a different default web browser without jailbreaking/rooting, ability (most of the time) to install non-Market apps without jailbreaking/rooting.

Hi! Apps are really really great ice breakers, especially the games. I like Fruit Ninja, and the new released Pigeon Palooza. Me and my niece always play on my android phone. She always asks me to download new apps, that's why. :)
