Amazon MP3 Music Quality

Hello all, does any one know if the sound quality of the songs you can buy from the amazon app are as good as songs you buy from i tunes. I used a couple of apps that let you download mp3's free but the quality was horrible, it gave me the impression that my phone sucked as a music player, turns out it was the quality of the mp3's because if i buy a song from itunes and then copy it to my phone it's like night and day, they sound great. Obviously i would just like to purchase and download songs straight to my phone but don't want to buy from amazon mp3 unless the songs are as good as itunes. Anyone use it before?

Amazon's mp3s are of equal or better quality when compared with iTunes. They offer 256kbps VBR:

Amazon.com Help: Media Formats

You could also purchase from Google Music if you have access. They encode at 320kbps VBR I believe.

Having downloaded files from both services I can say that the quality is excellent.

I've downloaded from Amazon and iTunes.

Amazon uses VBR mp3. iTunes is 256K m4a (aac) by default.

I personally like iTunes quality better, but both sound good and most people probably won't notice.

The mp3 download apps won't usually get you quality files. It's a crapshoot, and the ones I've used don't really give much information about the files, (bitrate, length, etc.). Those apps are really only useful for if you want free music on the fly. Certainly not archive quality.

Thank you both for your replies, they were very informative. I had google music on my phone but uninstalled it because i didn't see where you could actually purchase music, it just looked like a player/organizer. I'll have to install it again and take a better look at it. Thank you both again.

fyi...the Google Music player actually only allows for downloading (long press and choose 'Pin') or streaming.

To purchase you can either go through the Market app or via the web at https://market.android.com/music
