I am reading the screen on the XL is made by LG and is poorer quality and less power efficient than the samsung screen in the smaller Pixel. Any thoughts or concerns? Or is this not worth being concerned about?
@Brian706 I think that comparison was based solely off of the specs for the displays. It was published before the review embargo was lifted yesterday so can't include much (if any) real-world impressions.
Pretty much every review I've read since the embargo was lifted does suggest that the overall quality of the LG panel in the 2 XL is in several ways inferior to the Samsung panel in the 2. There were a lot of reports of grain and/or blotches of uneven coloring, particularly at low brightness levels.
Will you notice it during normal use, especially if you don't have a Samsung panel to compare to? Maybe not. I spent a few minutes with both phones at a Verizon store last week and really couldn't tell much of a difference between the two panels during that sort of casual usage. I suspect that it may be one of those things that you won't actually notice unless you're actually looking for it under very certain circumstances - though, of course, once you've seen it you may have a hard time not seeing it.
Even so, it seems like most reviewers are still preferring the 2 XL over the 2, largely based on its more modern design.
