Is there a newer app that I can use to send SMS, maybe type, etc - using Bluetooth, WiFi, or even hook it up to the computer?

I found some, but the SMS needs to be replied to or the device needs to the rooted

Thank you!

For outbound SMS I find that Skype fits my needs quite well, still hoping though for a Clickatell app for their great SMS service

Works on everything and with everyone. On the Nex7 you simply input your cell number and as long as your Nex7 is on wifi, it will be as if you are sending a text from your phone. It is free too.

Google Voice allows you to send/receive texts from any phone, computer, or tablet, even if your phone isn't with you at the time. Check it out at google.com/voice - it's free too :-)

i second that, the phone number they gve is handy too, you can give that one out, have it ring on any or all your devices and they have a great block function, if you want to block someone it tells them the service is out of order:smokingsomb:

You can port your existing cell number to Google too in the event you don't want to change numbers. That's what I did... best $10 I spent since that blowjob from GamerCore :-P

Pinger textfree. Sign up an you get a REAL phone number to text to and from. Its all free.

Have you gotten this to work on the n7? The play store says its not compatible' and when I side load it I get the message 'you have been signed out of text free, please sign back in' and when I select ok it just repeats the message...

Thanks! I had ran across MightyText and a couple of others.

I have a Google Voice number and never thought about it. I use Talktone right now (but they are having some issues when I send out an SMS).

I'll check those out and see what the best one for my needs. I just like to be able to have a record (just in case- since my memory is not that great).

Google Voice saves all texts in your Gmail, its perfect for a record...

I have Tablet Talk installed, and really like it. I have never gotten it to connect to my phone via Wifi, but Bluetooth works pretty well. Once in awhile I have to reboot one or both devices when it loses connection (after non-use), but once I do that it works well.

Last night, I also installed MightyText's beta. It's very nice. Being a beta, the downside right now is that it doesn't display contacts, because those aren't stored on the tablet. Unless that's changed, I won't use it long-term, because I haven't memorized the phone # of everyone who texts me! If that is a coming feature, I'll be using it happily. I've used MightyText on my computer for months, and love it.

Both are excellent options for texting from the N7.
