Android 2.2 Froyo 450% faster?!?!

Apparently the JIT (Just In Time) java complier converts code into native form which will speed up most apps. The apps that are already native (such as games) won't see much improvement, but most apps today aren't native so there should be a good speed up in everything.

hopefully we get the full 2.2 on the droid

Well, hopefully *all* android phones will be upgradeable to 2.2, or at least provide some possibility of retro-fitting JIT onto older releases, because there would seem to be little point in addressing fragmentation (of android releases) if we're going to have very fast devices which can run new, power hungry apps, and older, slower ones which run apps unusably slowly. In that case, why bother addressing fragmentation at all - google could just force people to buy new, faster phones.

If 2.2 is slow to get to the droid custom roms will include the new jit.

JIT can already be used in many roms already. I haven't tried it due to reports of it being kinda flaky, so I'm going to wait until the 2.2 roms come with JIT pre-enabled. People who have used JIT on Droid though say it definitely flies!
