How do you tell the phone to light up upon receiving a text message? It gets kinda old having to press the standby button.

What sms app are you using? Both Go SMS and Handcent have that feature in their notifications option.

Can you stear me in the right direction? I'm using the built in SMS. and this is kinda annoying, It gives me a sound but no visual like a phone call and would like to have it pop up saying "new text message from.." as I've had people wait and wait for a reply.

It would also depend on what phone you are using. I am using a Samsung Galaxy SL and it doesnt have that option on the default messaging app.

OK, I got Handcent running and it has ads, wonder if you can pay the 99 cents to remove the ads. Running great.. I don't know why they don't have this like my older phone did

Go SMS has no ads and its completely free if you want to check it out.
