Android 2.2

I have, from TMobile, the original MyTouch 3G. It came with I believe Android 1.6, finally updated to 2.2 a couple months ago. It still didn't improve the phone's performance.

I can finally download ANGRY BIRDS, but it runs so frickin slow I fall asleep waiting for the bird to go flying across the screen.

Yes, I do use the task killer and often kill everything. I also do a full reboot daily. Why in the hell is this phone running so incredibly slow?!?!?!

Think of it like a computer, right. We have 3 ghz processors. It feels like my phone is running on a 400mhz processor. wtf.

With performance this crappy, I find it ridiculous to see ads for pads out there running Android 2.2. Sure, I'll have a bigger screen, but the mothereffer isn't going to run any faster than I'm already getting because I already have the same version on my phone!! It takes so frickin long to go from app to app, to just go from making a call to the desktop screen or vice versa. It literally takes me 8 seconds to wait for the stupid calculator to open up and I have it as a hot button (widget) on my desktop.

Another bitch I have about the software is if I end a phone call, I do NOT want the phone to lock up. When I hit END, I want it to either still be in my phone book, or bring me back to the desktop. It's stupid.

Luckily, my contract is almost up and I qualify for an upgrade, or downgrade if I choose. Or hell, maybe I'll finally make the switch to crAPPLE (iphone).

This is a problem. Task killers are not needed with android 2.1 and above. Just stop using it, and your phone will run a lot smoother.

Other than that, honestly you should do a factory reset. With all the software problems you are having, this will clear all of those up. Since your phone is kinda old, and has probably been updated a few times, that leaves a lot of room for bugs to happen. A factory reset will clear them up.

ok, im willing to trust what you say and do that. will that delete my contacts?

just did the factory reset. it actually did keep my contacts. it is so much faster now. even the app downloads/updates are fast again.

There is an app called Watchdog which is what you are looking for.
Not a task killer per se - which is part of 2.22 anyway, but a monitor of which app is hogging what resource.
And if one of your apps is running amuck you can set a threshold that tells Watchdog when the app gets to x% of CPU shut it down, et cetera.

My phone is nothing impressive (Samsung Intercept), but it runs fine. One day I addeda few widgets and it destroyed the performance. I limit my widgets to a simple clock widget, and maybe a note reminder or something like that that used little RAM and little CPU usage. The phone is fine again. So be careful using widgets.

The task manager that came with 2.2 has a CPU usage window.

Also: After a while, all you apps with cache data that will eat up the space left over on your internal drive spacce. You can either use the applications manager and clear the app caches one by one, or download a cache cleaner and run it about once a month.

That is my guess. By doing a factory reset, you cleaned your cache, but kept your apps, and BAM!! phone is fast again.
