Android 3.0!?

I must be behind the power curve! I thought android 2.2 was the new deal. I guess they just released android 3.0!? WTH man! Lol

For the time being, 3.0 (honeycomb) is for tablet only. 2.3 (Gingerbread) is currently the newest "phone" Android version available.

Will 2.3 ever be available for LG Optimus S?
I have not heard anything about that.
However, the sister model called LG Optimus One is getting v2.3.
I'd suggest to check with your carrier time after time.

If not officially, there will likely be roms built around it. 2.3 isn't that big a deal when compared to 2.2 anyway. Even though they have the same .1 difference, the jump from 2.1 to 2.2 was way more substantial.

I was under the impression that 3.0 would be geared towards tablets, which makes me think that smartphones might get hosed a little on it.No its not released yet but it is expected to be released soon. I think it will be this Summer.

just downloaded Android 2.2 on my AT&T Samsung Captivate. On the browser, it never goes to the homepage unless I turn the phone off and then on. Killing the app doesn't work either; if I kill the browser and then go on it again, it simply goes to the last web page that I had displayed. If I turn the phone off and then on, the browser will go to my designated home page.
This was never a problem with Android 2.1.
Why is that?

3.0 is only for tablets right now, as a lot of the features would require a rework in order to display properly on smaller, lower resolution display like a phone has. It's an initial release. Starting with Android Ice Cream (believed to be 3.1), is where Android phone and tablet features begin to merge. The thought process is that, by 4.0, the phone and tablet OSes should be fully merged.

Apple fanboys won't admit it, but their OSes are fragmented by phone and product as well. iOS 4 came to the iPhone in June, but didn't hit the iPad until October. While the iPhone and iPad are now on 4.3.1, the CDMA iPhone is still on 4.2.6.

How can I update my Galaxy S from Eclair 2.1 to 2.3 Gingerbread? Do I need to update to 2.2 first? Where do I get the updates? AT&T says no Firmware update available from the phone itself.

So, you have the Captivate? Go to Samsung's website and look for the software for your specific model. It's called Samsung Kies. Once you download and install that, you can use it to upgrade your phone to 2.2. 2.3 for the Captivate isn't out yet.

Is there a list of current 2.3 released/capable phones? In any case though, are the EVO 4G, EVO Shift, and Samsung Transform going to be getting gingerbread?
