4.0.2 downloaded and installed before I left the Verizon store on launch day.
Yeah, that's about the size of it. A rollout that should have taken weeks after your update has turned into months as bugs cropped up. And we're not even last in line it seems. Plus, now it breaks NFC and the Market.

Hey guys. The GSM model didn't get 4.0.2 on release day. That was only the VZW model. Also the 4.0.2 update isn't going to affect the GSM model in the same fashion as the VZW model.

I'm on Rogers Canada too. After this update, the Android market force closes constantly. You can go to the market but once you get there and try to look at the app description you get a force close...Seems to be happening to a lot of users..
Only permanent fix so far is factory reset. Temporary refix is go into Settings > Apps > click on Market and uninstall updates. Then you can look at and download apps again..However, it only works for a few minutes before the market app auto updates itself again.
This is crazy...Not happy about it at all. Hoping I don't have to go through a factory reset...just a pain in the butt.
If anyone finds a fix for this, pls post or send me a msg.

Over the last few days, thousands of Canadians have been prompted to update their Galaxy Nexus smartphones from Android 4.0.1 to 4.0.2. Along with a few essential bug fixes, the new version adds a few major issues of its own. Not only does NFC capability disappear, but the Market no longer works, automatically force-closing when you enter the app.
This can be solved a number of ways, the first of which is to unlock the phone’s bootloader and installing a custom ROM based on Android 4.0.3. That, however, is not an option for a lot of people.
The other way this can be solved is to do a Factory Reset of the device, which seems to do the trick — once restored the phone will be on Android 4.0.2 but NFC and the Market will continue to work as usual. Unfortunately, by resetting your device you will lose many of your personal settings, and your apps. The apps will automatically reinstall once you enter your Google account information, as will a few options saved to the cloud like WiFi passwords and wallpapers, but the majority of user-entered information like email accounts will need to be re-submitted. The same is true for all third-party apps. Hit the break for the least damaging option option.
Now the third option is a bit of a stop-gap, but it will allow you to use the Market without resetting your device. It involves going into the Settings/Applications/Market and selecting Uninstall Updates. Then you must use a file manager to rename the MarketUpdater.apk to something like MarketUpdater.bak. This will prevent the working market, once reverted, from re-downloading the broken version. Until Google releases either a patch for existing users, or more likely, a newer Market that doesn’t force close, this is the easier method. XDA member yongwanee provides detailed instructions.
I found a solution that elegantly fixes the problem.
I didn’t notice the NFC option going missing, but searching through Google Groups reported past issues with buggy Market.apk from Google themselves, and I’m pretty sure that the issue lies with Google’s provided version of the Market.
I’m on Bell Mobility, by the way, completely stock, and had the Market crash after the 4.0.2 OTA update.
– SOLUTION –
As people have said, reverting the Market’s version to the previous version will fix the problem. But also as people have said, this is temporary because the Market will auto-update. So,
1) Use a file manager and navigate to
system/app
Then find the file “MarketUpdater.apk”
Either backup the file somewhere else and delete it, or rename it.
This will ensure that when the Market is updated again to a stable version, you can restore this file to update.
Then proceed to revert to the old version of the market.
2) Settings >; Apps >; All >; Market
Then click “Uninstall updates”
Hope this helps!
Now, of course, by doing that you are preventing Android Market from ever updating again, and once Google does release a fixed version you will want to rename the MarketUpdater.whatever back to MarketUpdater.apk. We have reached out to Google to get a timeline on a fix, but in the meantime let us know if this fixes the issue, or what else you did to get around the problem.

Yeah, there is a new radio. Check the baseband thread over at XDA, I think someone already has it posted there.
I have the jakju build on mine, and the 4.0.2 update caused quite a bit of lag on mine. It was extremely smooth until that update. Seems that not everyone has experienced that problem.
Personally though I have not had any market issues like some. May be an issue with carrier provided builds.
There is no such thing as carrier Nexus builds.
The NFC/market issue is specific to the Canadian yakjuux build that just started rolling out last week.

I wish I had gotten back here before updating. I too am having the market app problems people are experiencing. Really disappointed about this update. Why exactly did they remove NFC?
It probably wasn't their intention to remove it. Just something they really should have caught during testing but didn't. I have faith that they'll push out something to rectify this.
You'd think if something was going to break it would happen on the first batch of yakju builds which is basically a soak test. Not 2 and a half months and several builds later.
There is actually no such thing as a Bell Galaxy Nexus, and what carrier you are on or where you bought the phone at is irrelevant to the rollout of Nexus updates. The Nexus you bought at Bell is the Canadian variant (exactly the same as Telus, Rogers, etc) and it will get updates on a staggered rollout will all carriers when our region is getting it.
I suspect at this point that the update has been stopped by Google due to the severe problems it caused, but I'm only speculating. A stoppage would be good since it would mean they're working on a fix. Consider yourself lucky for being last this time (as am I it seems).
But the interesting question is why is the international rollout of 4.0.2 having problems in the first place? Googles 4.0.2 works just fine, Samsungs release does not. Why were any changes made in the first place?
Plus Samsung releasing 2 months later is inexcusable in itself. The main reason most people wanted this phone was to fix these type of issues...

Does anyone know where I can find out what the updates are? And what is actually being upgraded?
Well Google's own yakju build was halted mid-rollout for about a month. Then the Google Wallet vulnerabilities coincided with the second apparent stoppage of regional rollouts. So it would seem the delay has more to do with Google.
The changes that are made to regional builds appear to be radios, languages, excluding specific apps if the service is not available in a region yet. Since no one really know who does what or whether Google or Samsung are responsible for QA then I think it is impossible to hang any blame on just Samsung. The updates still come directly from Google's own servers.
Either way, breaking NFC was sloppy for an update that should be a near carbon copy to regional builds already released.

How do I navigate to system then app in the file manager? I downloaded a file manager but system is not located anywhere and I even tried a search for MarketUpdater but nothing came up. I assume I'm missing something here. Kinda a noob with phone stuff like this but would like to try the renaming trick for now.
