My stock S3 from Verizon *is* Android 4.0.4.

Yeah had my international 6 weeks and was 4.0.4 out of the box

Are we reading this right ? Is the OP asking the differences between 4.0 vs 4.0.4 just in general ? B/c all S3's like SUroot said should have been shipped w/ 4.0.4

[SUroot]

I'm not sure. Perhaps we'll have to wait for the OP to elaborate.

there has been an update this morning in the UK which has the following baseband version 19300XXLG8 - what did this remove this time?

[SUroot]

That was probably returning the local search which was accidentally removed in LG6

It was, see here:

great to see that Samsung a quick to fix their inadvertent mistakes. Well done Samsung 10/10

Yep, Making mistakes is sometimes unavoidable. Admitting them and fixing them is a good trait.
