Help Android 4.1.2 XWLS8 Huge Battery Drain!!

Hello All,

I had been running JB 4.1.2 XXLS6 leaked Rom on my S2 until lately I flashed the official one 4.1.2 XWLS8.

Both looked pretty much the same and I was glad that I have the official release. But I immediately noticed the battery draining level is MUCH MUCH fast in XXLS8 comparing to the old versions I had (XXLS6 leaked one, ICS 4.0.3, ICS 4.0.4). The drain is terribly huge while operating but in locked/sleep mode almost okey.

Believe me, the XXLS6 was much more sustaining that I could run a whole day with it; confused of what to do now.

Anyone has tips/instructions for me to check 1,2,3,4 and find a fix without going back to ex Roms? I've not rooted the device though..!

Help.

Thanks.

Hello

You should give it 3-4 days to monitor the battery to let everything settle down, if you are still having issues charge the battery to 100% and the switch off your phone and pull the battery for about 5 mins, then reinsert and see how it goes.

Its also worth enabling power saving mode and also check what is actually using your power.

If this all fails then your only other option would be to flash a new kernel

Jelly Bean LS8 was the first, "official", release but was replaced fairly quickly by LSD. Personally, I find the LSJ version to be the best for battery.

Before flashing a new JB ROM, see #1.2, here.

I do not think it worth rooting your phone just to flash a different kernel, unless you are already rooted. I would try the link above and re-flash LSJ.

Hello Ironass,

I'd quickly have flashed the LSJ version back but as you know, it would again wipe my data and lots of apps with customizations...or won't it??
This pulls me back. I know rooting can help take system backups etc etc but at the extreme end :(

What is the full version name of the LSD, a link may be to read? Have you tried the LSD and is it really better than LS8??

Full version name will reflect depend upon region. You can try following LSD ROM which is released for Italy on February 2013. But I have no idea whether this ROM will resolve your issue or not.

Download Link:

Full ROM version name is: I9100XWLSD (Jelly Bean 4.1.2)

thanks, i'd try it
do u think it's gonna wipe data or official?

All official Samsung releases are billed as no wipe... however, I always recommend wiping as this solves a lot of problems... the choice is yours! ;)

To find the full details of current releases, see #1.7 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide...

Stock, official, Samsung Galaxy S2 firmware can be downloaded from the SamMobile Firmware Page, after registering, by entering either "i9100, i9100G, i900M, i9100T, i9100P" in the Search box on the page followed by your CSC code, (i9100***). To see all firmware releases for your model of phone, just omit the CSC code.

Thanks Ironass :)

I am downloading I9100XWLSD (Jelly Bean 4.1.2) Italy, right now and gonna flash it using Odin, and let me see a week how the battery life looks like

BTW, official JB bundles do not come with a MODEM or CSC file included and just the PDA file only whereas the leaked version I9100XXLSJ_I9100OXXLS1_OXX came with Modem and CSC files inside, is this any important with the battery use? HOW CAN I CHECK MY MODEM VERSION in case?

That is just how SamMobile bundle them so that they can be flashed in PDA in Odin. Does not make any difference to battery.

HOW CAN I CHECK MY MODEM VERSION in case?

JB firmware, XWLS8 and XWLSD come with the XXLS8 modem/Baseband. XXLSJ has the XXLS6 modem/Baseband.

Once you have installed your firmware, go to...

Settings > About device > Baseband version

Thanks I found the same.

I just flashed the XWLSD and it's running fine, I can't find any difference anywhere at a glance.....I am gonna stress use it and see the battery performance (long Wifi, Youtubing, Downloads which I had happily been doing with LSJ month back :( )

Thanks for all supports :)
