Help Android 4.3 not displaying emojis

I just got a Moto G and it has Android 4.3 which is supposed to support emojis. I have the Touchpal X keyboard but all of the emojis are still showing up as android faces as well as in black and white. I tried the Google keyboard and couldn't get them to work either! Does anyone else have this problem?

P.S. To the mods: I posted this in general because I assume it's an Android problem but if it's Moto G specific you can move it if you like

Moved this to the Moto G forum.
On the stock Android keyboard, if you long press on the "Return" key and swipe up to the little emoji, the rest will show up. Have never used Touchpal X so not sure about it.

Thanks I'll try that but honestly I like Touchpal so much I'll probably stick with it!

I hear ya, the day I installed Swiftkey (probably a few years ago now), it's been the only keyboard I use.
Although it is fairly easy to swap over keyboards on the fly with the drop down IME Switcher setting.
