Help Android 5.1.1 Installed Itself

I have a rooted Nexus 10. I don't use the root for much, just that it allows me to stream files direct through the OTG/USB... Otherwise i dont know much about rooting.

I do know that if rooted, simply installing updates tends to make a mess of things so when the last update came out and showed up on my Nexus i just ignored it.

Few days ago, the icon was gone and looks like it just went ahead and installed itself. Since then, I've started experiencing random shut downs. Very annoyed that the install went through, more annoyed that it caused issues.

Any recommendations on what to do? I read something about clearing cache by holding power/vol up and going to clear system cache but, no option on that screen. Maybe becayuse of the root?

Power and vol down should be the correct menu. Android 5.1.1 is not root friendly. I would do a full unroot and factory reset the try to reroot the device. Android OS updates are forced sadly, we do have the option to update our self but only for a certain amount of time. Also otg support in 5.1.1 is excellent you may not even need root anymore.

OTG support would be great, and then I won't have to root every update. It's odd that the functionality isn't there without rooting.

If I have a movie file on USB and use OTG, I can play the movie but I think it copies it to the device in a temp folder first, same as opening PDFs or photos. Rooting will let me open directly without waiting for it to copy over first. It's literally the only reason why I root. :D
