Help Android 5.1 questions

Newbie
Hi guys, I recently got a new phone and it runs on Android 5.1. All these new look and UI is very new to me since I'm already used to 4.4 and older versions of Android. Anyhow, I'm somewhat getting used to it but there are still a few questions on my mind and this is where I need your help.

1. First of all, when I try sending an SMS to multiple contacts at once, the sending fails and I get the warning "Cellular data is turned off. Check your settings." Doesn't happen when I send to a single contact only.

2. I can't seem to view contacts stored on both my SIMs 1 & 2. I can import them to my phone and Google account though. The "Contacts to display" option only shows my Google account and neither of my 2 SIMs.

3. Why is there and exclamation point (!) on my mobile networks' signal every time I turn my mobile data off?

4. Isn't there an option to display the battery % on the task bar. Or is there but I just couldn't find it? I swear I checked every section in the settings.

5. Lastly, I still don't get how this "Adaptive brightness" works.

If you could help me or provide some links that could answer any of my questions, I would be very much thankful.

1. Group messaging may require an APN to be configured, same as MMS. Speak to your carrier about that. Single SMS does not require an APN.

2. Is this Google Hangouts? Not sure about that, don't use it. But you say SIM1, SIM2, is this a Chinese dual-SIM phone you've got? What is it, make, model and Android version?

3. Never seen that. Could be something device or manufacturer specific. Do you have an active data connection and is it working? APN configured correctly, see: point 1.

4. Some phones do have that, a percentage battery remaining. But again could be manufacturer specific, some do, some don't.

5. Adaptive brightness adjusts screen brightness to the prevailing illumination and conditions. Sure it's what replaced automatic brightness in previous Android versions, an improvement.

#1 - Some texting apps will send group texts as MMS which needs a data connection. Check your settings, the app might allow you to send them as individual SMS.

2. Because SIM contacts is outdated and basically obsolete. I wouldn't be surprised to see phones in the future not even having tha option to show them anymore. SIM just stores too little info to be useful to most people these days.

2. Absolutely agree. Stop saving contacts to SIM cards and save them to your Google account!

3. The exclamation point indicates the data connection is inactive.

1. What others said above - and try Textra.

5. Adaptive brightness doesn't try to cover the full lighting range. It takes the brightness setting into account and adjusts a little bit from there.
