Android 5.1 Update OTA

I'm still avoiding 5.0.1 on my N5.

My partner's Moto G got 5.0.2 recently and now I've finally used Lollipop and experienced some of its backwards design, I'm not looking forward to having to live with it.

Google has really turned me off Android with Lollipop.

I, too, am perfectly happy to remain with 4.4.4 for now, as it does everything I want of it.
Until I hear about some amazing advantages of Lollipop, it holds no attraction for me.
Better the devil you know!

I got bored with the problems I was having on 5.0.1, so i wiped and flashed 5.1 LMY47I. Seems like I still have the crappy wakelocks I had before though. sigh.

They really messed something up with the WiFi/cellular stuff. It's quite disappointing. My gut is that this is the root of all the wakelocks.

I'm on Giffgaff in UK and got the push alert last night and installed it this morning.

Not done anything different or tried any of the new features but sad to report that battery life significantly worse than normal :(

I'm still on 4.4.4 (Three, also in the UK). When I hear things like this, I'll continue to stay on KitKat. In fact, I've yet to hear anything about Lollipop that would make me want to change.

The good thing is that we have the choice.

Wait for things to settle down. You just had a major update, your phone needs time to get everything in order. That's not to say your battery will return to exactly the same (features use battery, after all) but over a couple days to a week you should see your battery life head back in the direction it was before.

Pretty sure all the problems people are having with battery drain is not specifically Lollipop's fault. From what I understand it mostly comes from the change in the file system. The OLD Dalvik file system has been replaced on Lollipop for ART (Android Run Time). On Kit Kat you can choose ART in the developer options. Now it isn't ART causing the problem. It is the developers who make apps that aren't optimizing their apps for the ART file system that is causing the issues. My battery life has been excellent to say the least since updating earlier today. Battery still appears full after hours of normal use, (phone call / few emails). Find your suspect app. I stopped playing Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff because of the issue. The developers even confirmed the issue as well in a support ticket I had with them. I wish Google would stop allowing apps to install that aren't optimized for your device or letting the developers post the app for download from Google Play until they conform to the new ART standards, so in a way Google is part to blame as well.

Good point, 326 (you're not related to Seven-of-Nine, are you?).
Perhaps in time app developers will modify their products. Have Google thought about providing the option to choose ART or Dalvik on Lollipop?

One of the bases for 5.0 was Google moving everything to ART. Unlike common belief though, everything should run fine on ART. Unlike the original ART on 4.4, this "new" ART retains compatibility with apps that only run on Dalvik. The apps aren't as efficient as they would be running in native ART. But, unless the app was coded so badly that it was killing everything on Dalvik, that shouldn't really be a problem on ART...

Like GuitarG20 pointed out Google went all out ART with Lollipop.

I'm no developer, I wouldn't know what's in the code either that would be causing it, or know how easy it is to fix. If my memory serves me right ART likes to preload resources somehow to speed up load times.

Also no idea who Seven-of-Nine is, but 326 is just an old pager code I used back when people used pagers so they knew who I was when I beeped them. Just spells Dan on a phone keypad.

Basically, ART pre-compiles the apps as they are installed (or when you switch, that pre-boot "optimizing apps" screen is ART doing it's work. Unlike dalvik, which would compile just-in-time (or JIT,) ART compiles beforehand.

Ah, so you didn't watch Star Trek The Next Generation, then! If you had you'd never forget Seven-of-Nine, although perhaps by now she may be a little past her sell-by date!

Got 5.1 yesterday and now there is a problem with charging, when I plug it in, it says charging but won't actually charge, tried from wall as well as computer. The only time it charges is when I turn the phone off. Not rooted. Anyone having similar problem?
