Android 7.1.1 Storage Behavior

I recently purchased a new tablet, 16GB of Internal Storage but I knew at least half of that would be taken up by the Android OS itself so I got a 64GB SD Card. I formatted and set this SD Card up as "Internal Storage". It really works nicely, except for the fact that I want to keep my library of PDFs on it and it won't fit on what pitiful space remains of the 16GB space.

I need a way to interact with the SD Card via BOTH the onboard file manager and MTP, and I think simply moving "Personal Space" to the SD Card would be the way to go about it. Problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to make use of the SD Card. Can I create a symbolic link?

UPDATE: It is now working. I just had to 'Migrate Data' three or four times (and be told it was successful three or four times) before it would work.
