Android 8.0 Update Can't View Notifications On Apps

Ed Porter

So I just downloaded the 8.0 update this morning and now none of my apps are displaying the message counts on them. I went into App Badges and made sure all of the apps had the notifications turned on, but they aren't showing on the app (I selected to display the Show With Number option). What's odd is I currently have 3 unread text messages using the Messages app (not the orange Samsung messages, the blue Messages app). If someone texts me the app will then show the number 4 on the Messages app. As soon as I open the messages app, that number is cleared, even if I don't read the message. The same is true with the Email app as well along with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc. None of them are displaying the message count.

Mine did the same thing yesterday and I absolutely hate it! Hopefully the next upgrade brings it back. Even if you don't get the popup notifications the apps don't display the numbers any more. I'm hoping someone has a solution.

Yes, this is the behaviour of the "notification dots" Google introduced with Oreo, and Samsung are following it - several others have noticed the same thing. So the dot just tells you that there is a notification, it isn't any form of "unread" count, and anything that clears the notification removes the dot.

As said above, some third party launchers have their own unread count features which work the way you want. I've not seen anyone post that the Samsung launcher has any such option so far (since both desktop and app drawer are provided by the launcher this is really a launcher feature).

I'm having a slightly different display of the notification after Oreo. My button on the app is showing double of the actual. Not a big deal to me, just thought I'd relay that there are different glitches after the update.
