Android 8.1 July Patch

News said Pixel and Nexus devices, but those are both owned by Google, so very well. Just really want a fix for the screen wakeup bug that last months patch caused...

My thoughts are that "unlocked" devices, even pixel/nexus devices get the updates slightly slower than locked devices.

Which type of unlock do you mean?

Most Pixel 2 in the UK will have been sold without a network lock (the biggest high-street chain only sells unlocked phones, even on contract, and of course any bought direct from Google are unlocked). I don't know about the US for this model. But in general network-locked models are slower to get updates apart from Samsung in the US (which must be deliberate, even if their motivation is obscure).

If you mean bootloader unlocked, I don't think the distribution system even knows. It's all on device serial number ranges or something similar. When I've used bootloader unlocked phones with stock firmware I've never noticed any delay myself.

I got the phone from Google so it's unlocked. I've never had an issue with slow update rollouts, this is the first time I wasn't the first to get it. It's the 9th and I still don't have it. Really getting annoyed.

I dunno. Since they fixed the "check for updates" button I've always found that it worked immediately (I got the July patch a week ago - ironically a few hours later I just thought "to hell with it" and installed the Android P beta anyway, so my next will be to see how quickly they distribute the final beta...).

I thought about doing the beta, but I wanted to see how the security patch was. If I don't get it what is there to do? Call Google? Say screw it and install the beta?
